"Adult" Speaks Up

"Adult" Speaks Up

Dear Editor;

I can't believe all the hoopla people are still brewing over the video store
on Beach 116th Street. Can anyone remember that the former "Rockaway Video" store rented such videos out to their members?  Right in the front of the store, without any precautions as to who looked through the section?

I visited the "adult" store yesterday to purposely enter the adult section.
I was nicely asked to see identification (I'm lucky I still look young!) and
was ushered into the room that was behind closed doors. What's the big
deal???  It sells adult videos and adult toys, it's not like there's a movie
studio hidden in the basement where they make the damn movies!

I, as a healthy and happily married adult FEMALE, appreciate not having to leave the peninsula and travel to such reaches as Manhattan and Woodhaven to find such novelties that enhance my wonderful marriage.  The fact that people are afraid that the store being open 24 hours will attract lowlifes proves that most people haven't seen the disgusting degenerates that emerge from Dunkin Donuts at 4 am after all the bars have closed.  I'm more afraid of them than of the adults that might patronize the adult store.  As long as Rockaway has such lowlifes and degenerates, then there truly is not one store people should really blame their presence on. If the store maintains the closed-door policy, then let them remain in business.

I hope I speak on behalf of the adults on the peninsula that can't or won't speak up for fear of repercussions.

GRATEFUL AND SATISFIED
