Simon Says….

As I travel to numerous meetings in the district, I constantly hear complaints about the noise from airplanes. I have been speaking up since the late 1970’s when we worked closely with Bryon Levenson and participated in numerous rallies to stop the SST from landing at JFK. Through the years, we have all experienced the piercing, shrill noise and have felt the vibration in our homes from this huge monstrosity.

The Rockaways, Broad Channel, Howard Beach and Ozone Park are part of an extended runway from JFK. I am pleased to see that the Port Authority agrees with me in opposing the resumption of SST landings at JFK. With the high number of asthma cases related to air pollution, the SST will cause more harm to our children. The Port Authority is adept at using the legal system. If they really wanted to stop the SST, they would do more than issue a statement.

I have urged all to be prepared for a hot summer rally at the International

Arrivals Terminal at JFK to oppose the possible return of the SST. Some of you may remember marching over the Crossbay (sic) Bridge to protest the bridge toll when the temperature was over (sic) 90 degrees. If you are concerned as we all are (sic) call our office as we will be able to make plans to organize the rally.

I am glad to see that the center islands on Beach 116 street (sic) near the boulevard now have an area for planting with a water irrigation system. Whatever the garden clubs touch turns to gold for the Rockaways.

Hats off to Nadia and the ladies of the garden clubs for the beautiful work they have done in our community. The park in memory of Pat Brackley is a place where parents with the baby carriages and seniors can enjoy the beautiful view and delicious breezes. God bless all of you.

There are still seats for this Saturday’s Atlantic City bus trip to Trump Marina Casino. The cost is $25 with $14 returned. 11 (sic) people will win $10 on the bus. We leave at 5:30 p.m. and return at 8 a.m. Please call my office now for seats. The next trip will be on Saturday (sic) June 23.
