Far Rock Huskers Break Three-Year Skid

Far Rock Huskers Break Three-Year Skid

By Greg Carter

The Far Rock Huskers, the peninsula’s premiere lacrosse program, has been on the losing end of things the last few years. Not this year; this year they lead RSA/NYC Metro Lacrosse League with an impressive 5-2 record.

The kids have been outstanding in their focus and preparation—not only for each game, but also for the game of lacrosse itself.

The players really and truly love lacrosse. It is so very evident in the fun and excitement that it brings the Huskers. The players have some truly great moments; especially the trips players go on. Some of the destinations have included West Point and Yale.

A perfect example of this work ethic was the win over the perennial youth lacrosse power, the East Side Crusaders. The Crusaders have had the Huskers number, beating them for three straight years. Tuesday was the first time the Husker program has come out on top. And what a win it was. The Huskers won with a commanding 10-1.

This past Tuesday’s victory was a total team effort. It started with top scorers Phil Collins, Pat Campbell, Jason Kelly, Keith "Laser" Carlson and Gustavo Lopez. Tight goalkeeping was another key ingredient and recognition must be given to Jose Torres and Phil Collins. Defensively, the brotherly duos of Chris and Reggie Glenn, and Brandon and William Patterson helped shut down the Crusaders attack. Truly, this was one of the Huskers’ strongest overall performances.

The team’s next game, which should be a tough match against DOC lacrosse, is scheduled on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Riis Park.

The team thanks J.P. Morgan Chase along with Brine who have assisted the Far Rock Husker program over the years.
