A.A.U. Regional Championship

A.A.U. Regional Championship

The 12 year old, seventh-grade, A.A.U. Regional Basketball Champioship starts this Saturday, May 5. This year, local girls high school Stella Maris will be the host to the tournament.

The top nine teams in the metropolitan area, upstate and all of Long Island, will compete for the right to go to the A.A.U. National Championship. The National Championship will be held in New Haven, Connecticut in July.

South Queens girls basketball, "the Angels", is the local team and will be hosting the tournament. The Angels are looking for their second trip to the national tournament. Two years ago they came in 13th out of 84 teams in Orlando, Florida.

This Saturday, the games will begin at Stella Maris at 9:00 a.m. and the last game of the day is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. The games will continue on Sunday and the semi-finals and finals will take place the next weekend. The Angels will play their first game at noon this Saturday. Their opponent will be the Riverdale Rockets.
