By Joan Ward George

Sixteen year-old Naiquan Tolliver has been arrested for shooting a young woman in the neck on Monday morning, April 23, 2001. The shooting incident occurred at approximately 12:20 a.m. in front of 411 Beach Channel Drive, Far Rockaway.

According to police, Tolliver, who has a long history with the department and three prior arrests on his record, fled the shooting scene, but was positively identified by witnesses. Detectives from the 101 Precinct caught Tolliver who was "hanging out on the streets nearby".

Police told The Wave that the victim was unknown to Tolliver and called the shooting, "an apparent random act of violence." The victim was a 19 year-old Black woman who was walking into her residence when the bullet struck her. She was transported by EMS to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center where she remains in serious, but stable, condition. At this time, her name is being withheld by police for her protection.
