First of all I hope all the Passover Celebrants had a Happy Passover and those who celebrate Easter have a Happy Easter. Will there be more bonnets this year? We possibly will have to look on Fifth Avenue for that. While we are on the subject of bonnets it just upset me that at the George W. Bush inaugural, on such a cold, blustery, rainy day, that none of the distinguished women, including Mrs. George W. wore protective covering over their heads. Who made this decision? Women have come a long way, it is true. But must we lose our femininity and elegance by omitting a beautiful chapeau to complete an outfit, especially on such an important day in our nation? Of course Hillary Clinton’s poor choice of head gear was unmercifully criticized at the first Clinton inaugural. That, however, does not mean all the inaugural women from now on have to shy away from wearing a hat out of fear of press retaliation. We do dress more casually today than years ago, but lets not omit a pretty hat entirely………not at formal occasions or lunches where they are most appropriate. A beautiful chapeau in good taste only enhances the woman. Maybe I am old fashioned, but I still admire a beautiful hat on a woman. I am sure you do, too. In fact one of Janet’s customers, Loretta (I am sure many of you know her) always turns heads and looks stunning in her hats. It certainly makes her stand out in a crowd. Your first thought is, "Isn’t she well dressed! Let’s see more of our ladies looking like ladies.

Kathy Judge, hair stylist at Janet’s, whispered to me that her brother-in-law, Patrick Judge, turned 40 years old on March 31 and was honored by 175 people at a grand party at the Knights of Columbus in Rockaway and everybody had a ball. Congratulations, Patrick.

Do you have a green thumb? Well, whether you have or not you can still attend the Belle Harbor Garden Club luncheon at the Beach Club on Monday, April 23 at 11:30am. The featured guest will be Mrs. Greenthumbs, the TV personality who appears periodically on LIVE with Regis and Kelly. I thought I could get over there myself but unfortunately I have a previous commitment. However, if you go you may pick up some great gardening tips………at least you will have a few laughs. Mrs Greenthumbs is a comedienne as well as an actress and gardener. Contact Mrs. Joseph Farrell if you wish to buy tickets. Proceeds go to the Garden Club. And, since it is a luncheon maybe you will show off a pretty chapeau?
