Eighth Grade ‘Kings’ Sweep Past The ‘Rook’ies
MS 198 recently completed its semi-annual chess tournament in which age and experience paid dividends. The eighth grade took the four top places—Derek Delgado, first place; Travis Green, second place; Tahiem Lucas, third place; and Mohammad Kabba, fourth place.
Seventh grader, Larell Newton, took fifth place, and sixth graders Dwayne Messam and Chris Charles tied for sixth and seventh place.
The program is presented to the school gratis by the Chess-in-the-Schools Foundation of New York City, which is a privately funded not-for-profit organization, represented in 198 by Mr. Carlos Aristy. Mr. Aristy replaced Mr. Ed Hai who is remembered by both students and faculty for his two years of service.
