Encouraged By Youth Forum
Thank you for the on-site coverage and subsequent article of the "Youth Speak Out 2001" event that was held at the Elks Club on March 10, 2001.
Commendations are also in order for State Senator Malcolm Smith, his staff and the community co-sponsors for hosting the session.
We are all aware of the problems and concerns confronting our young people. The opportunity afforded them to speak out on any issues as we adults listened. It was revealing, productive and promising. The youth were honest and they spoke of their fear of violence and hate. They spoke of love, peace, friendship and support. Their plea for adults to listen will not go unanswered. While the problems will not be solved in one setting, the effort will continue to address their many needs.
I look forward to participating in future gatherings. I will support any positive, progressive agenda that will be formed to help young people.
When it comes to creating a better world for youth, I am committed to not only crossing barriers to work together, but to eliminating barriers that impede us from joining forces to help our community.
