New Girls Softball League

By Emanuel Jalonschi

There are dozens of athletic leagues in the Far Rockaway and Broad Channel area. Unfortunately, even with all those leagues, all of the youth in our community isn’t represented. The Broad Channel Athletic Club and Jamaica May Little League are trying to alleviate the situation.

There aren’t many activities available this summer for teenage girls between fourteen and sixteen years of age. This year, the BCAC and Jamaica Bay Little League are trying to start up a girls blacktop softball league. They already have a number of girls signed up but they’re holding another registration day. It will take place this Monday, March 19 between 7 and 8 p.m. at the BCAC clubhouse located on Noel road in Broad Channel.

The league will start in May and will probably run into June. The fee, covering the costs for uniforms and insurance, is $85.

In a recent press release, BCAC representative Marty Feeney writes, "we here [at the] Jamaica Bay Little League are trying to keep the older girls busy and with all the scholarships out there for college softball, this is a very positive league." Mr. Feeney is one of the people heading up the league.

To sign up for the league, don’t forget to show up this Monday. To get in contact with Mr. Feeney personally, contact the Sports Editor at the Wave and the needed information will be provided.
