Bishop Kearney Headed For Playoffs
The Bishop Kearney Tigers finished the season 17-10. Kearney is now gearing up for the Catholic state tournament. Kearney will face Mercy in the state semi-final and a victory would put them in the state championship on Sunday March 18 at Saint Francis College.
The Bishop Kearney Tigers are led by Junior Katelyn Lawler and Sophomore Caitlin Boyle. Lawler and Boyle have scored in double-figures all season and have been a defensive force atop the Tiger press. Janene Jackson and Caitlin O’Callaghan have cleaned up the boards and kept the Tiger defense tight in the middle. Freshman Jen Lawler, Meredith McCloughlin, Maryanne Welsh and Jean Clyde have seen significant minutes this season and have contributed to the Tigers’ success.
Kearney got to the state tournament by beating Bishop Loughlin 47-40. Katelyn Lawler had 14 points and 5 steals, Caitlin Boyle had 10 points 4 assists 4 steals and Janene Jackson had 8 points 11 rebounds.
Kearney will look to pressure the ball on Wednesday against Mercy. The two teams faced off early in the season with Mercy coming out the winner in an overtime victory at the Long Island school.
