Stars Cut Down The Wings Contributed by Mike Carney

Stars Cut Down The Wings
Contributed by Mike Carney

The Stars played a fine game beating the Wings at Bayonne on February 24. They opened the scoring when Kenny Shatkzes scored the only goal of the first period in a mad scramble in front of the net. The Wings, with two power play goals in the second period, took the lead. That didn’t last long. Sean McAllister took a pass from Mike Carney and tied the game with a bullet from the blue line. Kevin Leonard, who usually plays defense, was moved to foward. Leonard took a pass from Brendan Tracy and put the Stars ahead to stay with his first goal of the year in the third period. Goalie team of Sean Rock and John D'Adamo played tough in goal as usual and the Wings would score no more. Thomas Votto stopped a clearing pass at the blue line and threw it in the empty net for a 4-2 win for the Stars.

Good forechecking by Douglas Cohen and Jonathan Andjelovic and great hits by Eddie Finegan and John McGee, kept the Wings from getting anything started.

As usual, the game was very competitive.
