Youth Forum Held Today
The days of "children are to be seen, not heard," are long gone, as Senator Malcolm Smith hosts a youth forum today, Saturday, March 10, enabling local youngsters to tell their parents, teachers, elected officials, police officers and other community leaders just what’s on their minds.
The "Youth Speak Out 2001" will be held from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Elks Club, 1410 Beach Channel Drive, Far Rockaway (corner of Nameoke Street). Refreshments will be served and a Greek "step show" will be provided for everyone’s entertainment.
"I urge all interested young people and other community members to join me at what should be both an enjoyable and enlightening event," Senator Smith said. "I look forward to hearing from our local youth about the things they consider most important. They are our future leaders, and deserve an opportunity to make their voices heard."
Local organizations who are co-sponsoring the event with Senator Smith are: the PRYSE Committee; the Mason Center/Beacon School 198; Rockaway/Inwood Ministerial Coalition; First Church of God; St. John Baptist Church; 100/101 Precinct Explorers; the Queens District Attorney’s Office; Joseph P. Addabbo Family Health Center; Bethel A.M.E. Church; District 27 intermediate schools; local PTAs; and tenant organizations.
