Dorothy Dunne...

St. Patrick must have smiled down on the Rockaway St. Patrick’s Day Parade last week. It was the biggest and best parade they have ever had. More bands and participants, and Mayor Giuliani even participated. Has Rockaway finally been recognized? My congratulations to Grand Marshals Mike McGuire and Kathryn Mitchel Marcella; Honorary Grand Marshal Barbara Morris and Robert Spata; and, of course, Deputy Grand Marshal’s Chamber of Commerce President Liz Sulik and Wave Editor John McLoughlin.

Anna Mae and Joe Lyons have returned from a wonderful trip to Disney World. Even though Ana Mae was not feeling well when she left they still had a great time. (Maybe it is true adults can have fun at Disney without the kids).

Mary Ann Fitzgerald hosted a surprise 50th birthday celebration for her husband, Tom, at Nora’s Park Bay Restaurant by the Marine Park. Fifty of their friends and family attended. Best wishes to you, Tom.

An exclusive press lunch at the elaborate, gorgeous Russian Tea room was held last week to inform them of the double-digit percentage increase in overnight stay by Americans in the year 2000, and, that it looks to increase that number with the special array of first class cultural highlights at the end of June 2001. The Museum Quartier, one of the largest museum complexes in the world at the edge of Vienna’s old city, will open its doors. During the fall of 2002, the Albertina, world’s largest graphic collection, will open. Also during 2002, after several decades, Prince Liechtenstein will again make his famous collection of paintings accessible to the public. On June 30 a gala event will take place when the "MQ" is dedicated to Vienna.

Some of the productions of the Vienna Festival (May 12 to June 15) are: Chinese Opera Mudan Ting, Peter Brook’s Tragedy of Hamlet, Mozart’s Le Nozre de Figaro, Im Pulz Tanz oz, which combines avant garde ballet companies from all over the world. There will be an architecture center, children’s museum, art cult center and many, more. A great time to go to Vienna. Perhaps some of you saw my show, "Travel in Style" to Vienna? It just gave you a taste of this musical city. Now with this new Museum Quartier (www.mqw.at), it should be even more fascinating.

"Magic" Johnson and Joe Frazier were at Alfredo of Rome to host An Evening of Champions to benefit the National Asthma Center and to kick off the 2001 Football Spectacular - a memorabilia and collectibles event held Saturday, March 3, 2001 at the New Jersey Convention and Expedition Center in Edison New Jersey. Maybe you can make it next year.

A new spectacular magazine, Gotham, was launched at a gala event at Cipriani’s. The magazine is on the stand now, filled with celebs and goings on in a most sophisticated way. The articles are well written, contemporary and most informative. It is thick. It is heavy. It is full of things you want to know. Worthwhile reading.

Infant Death Syndrome was given some financial aid for research at a reception/dinner at the Tennis and Racquet Club, with an auction and hat fashion show by Casey Bush, director of the Millenary Institute. Meredith Vieira and Storm Field were the emcees for the evening. The Antique Road show’s Nickolas Dawes was the auctioneer. Beautiful evening.
