I am deeply saddened by the loss of a great leader, inspiration and fighter for the Rockaways, our own Wave Publisher Leon Locke. Leon has been involved through the years for the benefit of the Rockaways. His sudden passing brought to mind that God needed a special angel to run the cloud version of The Wave in heaven. God needed a special man who he could depend on as a loyal great angel.

We send our deepest sympathy to his lovely wife Susan and his wonderful mom Fannie. Leon will definitely be missed.

I would like to give a special thanks to the members of the St. Thomas More Church Golden Age Club under the leadership of their great President, Renee Lacey. Renee delivered a special Valentine’s Day gift of a half dozen chocolate roses and a Valentine’s Day card with all the signatures of the Golden Age Club members. This was greatest Valentine’s Day gift I ever received. God bless all of you.

As you may have been reading, the commuter ferry that will lave from the old Coast Guard station in Roxbury was awarded to Seastreak. This was the boat that many of us went on in early September that took 26 minutes to South Street Seaport.

The Princess Elfie K will be running ecological tours. There will also be day trips from Riis Landing, as they call it, to Liberty State Park in New Jersey. The price for the commuter ferry is expected to be $10 each way and $2 to spark in the Riis Park lot.

With the skyrocketing cost of energy today, many seniors may have to choose between food, prescription drugs or keeping their house warm. The following might be an answer to a prayer.

For those who qualify, HEAP benefits in New York City average $350 per year. It is for those who own their home or pay for their heat directly, and the benefits are available whether you use gas, oil, electricity or another energy source. For renters who pay for heat, a $40 to $50 grant per year is also available. New applicants must apply at one of HEAP’s local offices.

People over 60 can contact the New York City Department of Aging HEAP Unit at 212-442-3026. An application will be sent to you. It must be filled out and returned with a copy of your birth certificate, Social Security card, Social Security award letter and other benefit award letters, and your LIPA, Keyspan, or other energy bills.

You may be eligible for an emergency grant if you are short of fuel or have a heat-related utility disconnection.

My next Atlantic City trip to Trump Marina will be on Saturday, March 10. We leave at 5:30 p.m. and return at 8 a.m. Call my office for reservations.
