Local Blaze Injures One
Firefighters responded to an all-hands fire on Wednesday, February 21 as smoke and flames engulfed a one-story residence causing injury to a lieutenant helping to control the blaze.
The fire broke out at 9:05 p.m. in the rear house of 328 Beach 89 street, between the freeway and Beach Channel Drive, while an occupant was watching television.
It took 12 units and 60 firefighters to get the blaze under control by 9:28 p.m. Local fire and police departments were on hand rescuing people from the front house.
Lieutenant Magle from Engine Company 266 located on Beach 95 street was injured on scene and taken to Jamaica Hospital’s Trauma Unit. No other injuries were reported.
The fire’s cause is still under investigation.
