Lew’s A Guardian Angel

Lew’s A Guardian Angel

Dear Editor;

My name is Beth. I’ve been a rockaway resident all my life. I grew up with Mr. Lew Simon, went to elementary school with him and also junior high school. I hadn’t spoken to Lew in many years, but last year, March 8, 2000, I was diagnosed with breast cancer stage three (very severe). I was having trouble getting my disability through my old company and also my Cobra insurance. All I had to do was call Lew Simon’s office and he was right there fighting my battles for me...He called my old boss and straightened my disability out, also giving me Cobra insurance that we paid for separately.

Without Lew Simon I don’t know what I would have done. He called the American Cancer Society and they had someone call me to talk with them. Also, they sent me our brochures and bras for me to wear once I came home with an implant after the mastectomy.

In April of 2000 I wanted to give up and stop chemotherapy, but Lew sat on the phone with me for several hours telling me not to give up because of my eight year old daughter.

When Lew and I were growing up I use to beat him up almost everyday in school because he use to get on my nerves, but now he is my guardian angel.

I’ve been in remission for four months now and back to work for two months. If it weren’t for Lew I probably wouldn’t be here. So again I think I owe this man a medal for putting up with me when I was sick because I was a real witch.

BETH
