By Joan Ward George

Escaped convict George Lowe was captured within the confines of the 100 Precinct last week by Detective Patrick Curran.

According to police, Lowe’s whereabouts were made known to Curran while he was conducting an unrelated investigation. Police said that Lowe had been an inpatient, under police custody, at Mary Immaculate Hospital, Queens, in October of last year when he escaped. He had been under police warrant for several burglaries that took place in the 113th Precinct last fall. According to detectives here, Lowe has been hiding out in Rockaway for an undisclosed amount of time prior to his arrest on January 30 at 114-01 Rockaway Beach boulevard.

Lowe, who had a previous felony conviction, was charged with two counts of escape. Police told The Wave that following his arrest as a fugitive from justice in Rockaway, Lowe was placed back into the criminal justice system, and he has been identified in connection with burglaries in the 113 Precinct.

According to the Queens District Attorney’s office, Lowe has officially been charged with burglary and bail jumping. He remained incarcerated as The Wave went to press Thursday. His next court date is set for February 26, 2001.
