With all of my (and many others) elation over the Bush election and follow up, I have a few notes of concern and caution.

First his stand on and treatment of organized labor. In Texas, Bush had a less exemplary relationship and stand on organized labor. Will he be man enough and wise enough to understand these issues better and realize Texas is not the entire U.S.? He could make friends here that could catapult the Republican Party ahead, or return to the useless and counter productive anti-union attitudes of the past. George—reach out, learn and grow!

Second is both his and Ashcroft’s association with Bob Jones University. Now it may have been necessary to "deal with the devil" to win the South Carolina primary, but again George, like Texas, South Carolina is not representative of America and we expect better from our leaders.

Bob Jones University is the university known as only recently allowing inter-racial couples to date. It is known as an anti-Catholic hotbed that promotes and has honored the infamous anti-Catholic bigot, Dr. Ian Paisley. Paisley has made good livelihood baiting, attacking and promulgating violence against Catholics in Northern Ireland. He also serves on the university’s board of directors. They sell many of Ian’s anti-Catholic books and the university’s own literature and web site have notorious anti-Catholic statements. They, as does Ian, routinely refer to the Pope as "the whore of Rome" etc, ad infinitism, ad nausea. They have been notoriously bigoted towards African and Jewish Americans as well.

George, a divorce is in order. You and Ashcroft must not pander to these people. They’re dangerous.

I also have a few words on Ireland. The Republican platform that you ran on was excellent. We expect you to live up to the letter and the spirit of those words. You see, those positions and Bob Jones University are exact opposites.

So George, with a few steps you can insure your party is and remains the majority party and expands your majority in Congress. It’s easy—grow a little, modify a little, and one divorce (Bob Jones University). So far George, excellent, but I see storm clouds coming. Please prove the real meaning of "compassionate conservatism" to us and be a President of all of us. God bless and good luck.
