SPECIAL OLYMPICS 2002 FUNDRAISER
The Kerry Hills Pub sponsored a hugely successful fundraiser to help
send the St. Camillus Special Olympics Team to Ireland in the summer of 2002. Over 220 people jammed into the cozy environment of the pub to watch the Giants demolish Minnesota and to enjoy the various festivities.
Many of the Special Olympics' athletes, their families, their volunteer
coaches, their friends, the Kerry Hills' regular patrons and countless "just plain, nice, generous people" from throughout the peninsula danced to the tunes of Patrick Tubridy. They ate trays of shepherd's pie and ziti that were prepared by Carmel O'Sullivan, Billy Whelan and Robin and Louie Macardo and they enjoyed the generous hospitality of the Kerry Hills' owners, Jimmy and Carmel O'Sullivan who donated four hours at their pub for all the contributors. Jimmy and Carmel approached Noelle Hutton to offer their pub at no cost for this fundraiser. Noelle, whose daughter, Emily, is in the St. Camillus program, eagerly accepted and made al the arrangements with advertisements, tickets, raffles, and food.
Jimmy, Carmel and Noelle were generously assisted in hosting this
spectacular event by many volunteers. Those who sold tickets at the door and sold raffles included: Caitlin Murtagh, Kathy Clarke, Regina Clark, Marie Huber, Laurie McDonnell, Kathleen Moriarty, Noreen Ryan, Mary Liz Grossetto, Kathleen Mulqueen and Betty Dermody. Monica Kalfur printed the door tickets on her computer. Those who worked feverishly to serve food and
drink to this huge crowd included: Kathy O'Sullivan, Peter Paul Kieran,
John Hayes, Philis Kearns, John Hutton, Joe Hutton and Caroline Travers.
The raffle drawing was very successful as a fundraiser. The donations for the raffle were contributed by: Della Fleming, Michele Fleming, Lisa Newman, Noelle Hutton, Philis Kearns, Jack Hutton, Joan Duffy, Michael Reilly, the Beach Club, the Rockaway Beach Inn, Boggiano's Tap and Grill, the Hole in the Wall, Healy's, the Palm Garden, Rogers, Curran's Dragon's Den florist, and, finally, Kathy Clarke who knitted a beautiful quilt embroidered with the slogan, "Dublin, Ireland, 2002."
The thirty-one Special Olympics athletes especially thank Jimmy and
Carmel O'Sullivan. Please visit them at the Kerry Hills. They also thank
Noelle Hutton, the many volunteers and al the generous friends who supported them by showing up for this fundraiser.
We apologize to any volunteers whose names may have been omitted. We'll see everyone when we march in the Rockaway St.
Patrick's Day Parade on March 3rd and the St. Camillus Parish St. Patrick's Dance on March 4th.
