Police officers in the 100 Precinct, Rockaway Beach, are stymied in their attempts to catch the culprit or culprits responsible for shooting out windows in the west end of the peninsula.

The first reports were made to the police on Thursday, January 18, 2001 when someone shot out windows in automobiles parked on Beach 143 street (See The Wave, January 20).

That same evening the windows at the Cross County Savings Bank in Beach 129 street also were shot out. At that time it was not confirmed to The Wave that the bank windows had been destroyed.

Police Lieutenant Patrick Leonard examines windows of Volvo which were shot out Monday night into Tuesday morning January 30, 31.

Within a week, on Monday, January 22, at about 2:30 a.m. the bank windows were once again shot out.

On Tuesday night January 30 into Wednesday morning, January 31, windows on cars parked on Beach 145 street were shot out.

Detective Patrick Curran at the 100 Precinct is handling the case and anyone with information is asked to call him at 718-318-4224. Or, one may call the Queens Detectives 24-hour hotline at 718-520-9200. Refer to case number 65.
