Meet The Irish by Harry McGuirk

We salute the members of A.O.H. Division 21, Rockaway. The good works of the Hibernians is well applauded.

When the phone rang the other evening we were quite surprised when the voice of John McManus gave a hearty "hello" and asked how Margie was getting along. I know the McManus family for nearly a lifetime. They’re a lovely family. Their origin is County Cavan. John, who is a member of New York’s Finest, is a strong community person. He and his family have been handed down a history of Ireland and the suffering of the Irish people caused by the English settlers. Members of the family were not slow attending patriotic causes such as Irish political prisoners in New York.

As John and I talked on the phone you would know that the McManus family loved America with the same fervor as their county of origin. Naturally being a Hibernian, John is a devout Catholic.

John and his family can see through the eyes a dream of a more beautiful Rockaway. Would it be a stadium for sports? More activity on the boardwalk?

Thank you John for your inspired suggestions!
