Opportunity Is Now!

Opportunity Is Now!

Dear Editor;

From the Accounting and Managerial Studies Department at LaGuardia Community College we would like to urge all students that have the opportunity to take advantage of college today to do so.

Unfortunately, one of my closest friends had a tragic loss this week. They mourned the loss of their nephew Tommy Johnson. A honor student, a great football player and a model teammate lost his life and his dreams of persuing his Harvard college degree. His life on earth was cut short.

Out of the mouths of babes, little Ashley Frye said, "Don’t worry about Tommy. Tommy will be just fine. We get to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr’s Birthday every other year but Tommy will get to see Dr. Martin Luther King Jr."

The family would like to thank all friends and family for their support. Mr. Edward Williams, president of N.H.A., was a tremendous support to the family. Patricia Frye will never forget how inspirational he was to the family. Tommy’s service will be held at First Baptist Church in Far Rockaway. There were over 2,000 people present. What a way to go home!

Again, we urge all young people here at the college to do your best and take advantage of your education while you can. The family is planning a rally coordinated by Patricia Frye to stop the violence. It will be lead by Rev. Rueben Mitchell.

ALTHEA RODER
