St. Francis Tourney Results

The 15th Annual St. Francis de Sales Christmas Tournament was a sensational success. There were 38 teams with double eliminations. Sub-Novice had five teams, Pee-Wee – seven, Novice -- five, Bantam -- seven, Rookie -- seven, and Intermediate -- seven.

Despite the cancellations due to the blizzard, the teams managed to play the championship in time, with substitution games.

St. Francis de Sales tournament awards went as follows:

St. Thomas Aquinas 19 St. Frances de Sales 10

Pee-Wee (fourth grade)

St. Thomas More (Breezy Point) 21 St. Frances de Sales 19. Game went into overtime.

Novice (fifth grade)

St. Thomas Aquinas (Bklyn) had a triumphant win over Tri- Parish of Long Beach.

Bantam (sixth grade)

Our Lady of Angelus (Rego Park) defeated Our Lady of Grace (Bklyn).

Rookie (seventh grade)

St. Thomas Aquinas defeated St. Frances de Sales 30-29 in one of the most exciting nail-biter games.

Intermediate (eighth grade)

St. Frances de Sales defeated Our Lady of Angelus (Rego Park) 50-45.

The championship games were made up on January 3 for the fourth, sixth and eighth grades and Jan 5 for the third, fifth and seventh grades. There were two "All-Star" tournament awards per team. Winning teams received tee shirts and MVP awards. Second place received trophies and "outstanding player" awards. Many thanks to the following who made this all possible: Jack Bender- Program Copies; Shelley Plock- Programs; Kenny Smith, Vinny Esposito, Tom Lacynski, Jack Bender and Jim McKeon for their all-around help; Jim McKeon – Scorebook; Teddy Marshall- Who went over and above his responsibilities on the clock; Delores and Sue Brennan and friends, Katherine, Angela and Danny; First and second grade clinics put on a great performance during the tournament; Kudos to everyone who helped to make this tradition a success. Key chains were given to everyone who participated in the tournament.
