Murder In Edgemere
Seeley Is Most Wanted

Thomas Johnson was shot to death Wednesday afternoon, January 10, 2001, at approximately 5 p.m. outside of 56-16 Beach Channel drive in the confines of the 101 Precinct.

Johnson, a 20 year old male Black, is believed to have been shot once in the head by Charles Seeley, a 19 year old resident of 56-16 Beach Channel drive. During the immediate investigation into the shooting, police were led by witnesses to seek Seeley out for the deed.

Police told The Wave that it is believed that the victim and the perp were known to each other. Police also said that Seeley has a history with the police department, having been arrested in the past for assault. Police believe that the shooting/murder was the result of an argument between the two over a piece of Johnson’s property.

The 101 Precinct Detective Squad has named Seeley as their latest "Most Wanted" fugitive from justice and has asked The Wave to reach out to the community encouraging anyone with information relative to this incident to call Detective Lehner at 868-3429. Information can also be presented to the CRIMESTOPPERS Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS. Information that leads to the arrest and indictment of a "Most Wanted" fugitive can result in a reward of up to $2,000. All calls can be kept confidential. No one is to be considered guilty until proven so in court.

Johnson’s murder marks the first homicide of the New Year in the 101 Precinct.
