Athletes Celebrate At Special Olympics Party
St. Camillus Special Olympics had its annual holiday party that was highlighted by a visit from Santa Claus, a.k.a. John Hamilton. Santa presented new Special Olympics tee-shirts, designed by It’s All Good, to the athletes and volunteers.
An extra surprise for the athletes was the unexpected visit of Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer and 100 Precinct Captain John Miller.
All of the partygoers enjoyed pizza, soda and cookies that were baked by the athletes’ parents.
The athletes wished everyone a Merry Christmas, a Happy Chanukah and a Happy Kwanzaa. At the conclusion of the party, Joe Featherston thanked the following: the athletes for being such a "joy and inspiration" to all every Monday night; the volunteers for helping the athletes reach their athletic and social goals; the athletes’ parents for providing support to the program and "so much love" to the athletes; Father Dunne and Sister O’Neill of St. Camillus for their generosity and help; and, finally, all the sponsors who fund the program’s activities.
Featherston also announced that the Kerry Hills Pub was sponsoring a fundraiser on Sunday, January 14 from 3 to 7 p.m. A $20 donation will be asked for an open bar and light food. Noelle Hutton is organizing this event and all proceeds benefit the Special Olympics trip to Ireland in 2002.
