Inner Voice...By Marilyn Gelfand

Inner Voice...By Marilyn Gelfand

Now that we’re well into the new millennium, we can all sit back and think that there was so much hullabaloo and so much fear that was generated into our society less than one year ago. It’s over. We’re here now and we’re safe thanks to some outside human force. Everyday we’re told this or that by some expert. As we sit here in Arctic temperatures, and the southern states freeze, we can think back to the greenhouse effect. Millions of dollars and so much publicity is spent all the time on experts who tell us that we’re incapable and unable to solve our own problems. We should always remember that as societies change, the old experts become laughable archaic creatures that didn’t know better, way back then.

One of the main lessons on our life’s journey is to trust our own instincts. It may be to follow the expert’s advice or to contradict it. It’s consequential as long as you feel it’s right inside yourself. Sometimes we even look at family members wondering how they can choose this way rather than the way I think is best. The key is that the lesson belongs to the individual living through it. After we make suggestions, we must remember to stay on our own path rather than get lost in someone else’s decisions about his life.

I have found over the years, that the universe presents me with the way to go if I can separate myself from my own emotions and not be influenced by the strong opinions or feelings of others. What I must remember is to be in balance, to handle each day with the challenges it brings, and to step back from myself to see and feel my direction emerge. It isn’t always possible to tell if something is good or bad until we have hindsight, so the key is to trust myself and my decisions each step of the way and to keep on going one foot in front of the other.

Happy New Year! Make it yours!
