Store Owner Shot To Death
Mamadou Toure, who came to America from Guinea in 1994 to make a better life for his family, was shot to death during what appeared to be a robbery attempt in his Far Rockaway clothing and music shop. Toure was rushed to St. John’s Episcopal Hospital Center where he was pronounced dead at 5:12 p.m.
According to police, Toure was shot twice in the torso at approximately 4:50 p.m. by an unknown person and for an unknown reason. The former cab driver opened his small 21-18 Mott avenue shop just a year ago in a storefront located in Far Rockaway’s busy commercial area.
Toure’s killer fled the scene of the crime. Police believe that there were probably several witnesses around this heavily traveled area during this time of day. They are requesting that the community to come forward with any information that they might have to help in the apprehension of the person responsible for Toure’s death. Anyone with such information is asked to call Detective Conti at the 101 Precinct Detective Squad at 718-868-3428.
Toure, who resided in the Tremont section of the Bronx, was a devout Muslim and was described by police as a "hard working guy". He is survived by his widow, Fatoumata and children Oumou, 5, and Aissatou, 17.
