The Facts Commander
(In regards to VFW Speaks Out from December 2, 2000).
You chastised the Democratic Party for challenging GI absentee ballots; you could not be further from the truth.
The services get the ballots months ahead of time. They are taught how to fill them out and the deadline on when to mail them. As we say in services, as Senator Kerrey said, there is always the group that doesn’t get the word. I served in Vietnam and we got the ballots out and that was a combat zone. I suggest to you, you should be more concerned about the VFW standing behind Bush and Cheney both avoided Vietnam duty.
Cheney’s excuse was he had two children. I had two children as had thousands of GI’s who went. Bush was absent from his reserve company many times. As a commander of the VFW you should avoid taking sides.
