Pottery Craft Sale

Studios of Pottery by Susan will be open for holiday shopping on Saturday and Sunday, December 9 and 10. Rockaway’s only working pottery studio is located on the third floor of the Wave building at 88-08 Rockaway Beach boulevard.

Unique, hand crafted gifts and fine art are available for sale. Pottery, stained glass and jewelry are being created in the studios. "We will show you how we make our crafts," says Susan, "Our artists will be on hand to answer your questions."

Saturday’s schedule includes a demonstration of wheel thrown pottery by Susan Locke at noon. At 1 p.m. Norma Allende will demonstrate her creative talent at stained glass. At 2 p.m. Irma Seabury-Steinke will host a poetry reading in her art studio. She will read her own work and invites Rockaway’s poets to read their own poetry. Irma is also an oil painter and will her paintings available for sale.

Sunday will provide us with a unique experience. At noon, Angela Brown will demonstrate the walk around method, an ancient African technique of pottery making. It will be an event not to be missed. At 1 p.m., Norma Allede will demonstrate making stained glass and at 2 p.m., Irma Seabury-Steinke will lead a poetry session.

The Rockaway museum will be open both days and has Rockaway memorabilia for sale. This is a unique shopping experience and there is something for everyone. Visit the pottery studios and see how fine crafts are made.

Studios and museum are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, December 9 and 10.
