To A Flying Start

Far Rockaway High School Lady Seahorses started the 2000-01 indoor track season. They opened with the first meet at the Armory running against the rest of New York City.

Things started quickly as Melinda Fortune took second place in the freshman shot put and Colister Brown took fifth. Shanell Stoves took third in the varsity shot put. Next Darine Fortune took third in the sophomore 55m hurdles.

The day ended with the freshman 4X200 relay team of Christina David, Stephanie Minette, Naja Watts and Letisha Howard racing to a first place victory. In the varsity 4X200, the team of Marsha Hayles, Enameguolo Shemi, Shellean Fyffe and Kariesha Reid took second.

The team will be bringing back seniors Marsha Hayles, Monique Hoilett, Enameguolo Shemi, Martina Azoro and Kariesha Reid, all of whom were All-City as juniors.

Returning juniors include All-City runners Doreen Russell, Taisha Hyatt and Hannah Omolade. Joining them are Christie Henry, Shanell Stoves, Shannon Townsend, Simone Allmond, Arnella Williams and Tamika Brown.

The sophomores are led by all runners Shellean Fyffe, Serephia Ferrigon, Anastasia Bailey, Shaniqua Moorer, Shellion Clarke, Derrica Mafarlane, Darine Fortune, Racquel Clarke and Odalice Brito.

The freshman class is led by Letisha Howard and Stephanie Minette. They will be joined by Mildred Jackson, Naja Watts, Christina David, Crystal David, Davina Hamilton, Joniann Phillips, Shioben Robinson, Melinda Fortune, Natasha Gomes, Diane Delph, Shakia Parson, Colister Brown, Nickesia Evans and Eliethia Richardson.

The team managers are Kerin St. Bernard and Tiffany Thompson and the coaches are Franklin Barrowes and Tanya Prescott.
