Detectives from the 101 Precinct are looking for the shooter or shooters who fired BB pellets into a police van last Friday night shattering the front windshield and windows of the unoccupied police vehicle.

The incident occurred at 12-70 Redfern avenue just after two patrolmen, regularly assigned to this specific area, had exited the van to do a vertical search of the building. Upon returning to their van, the officers discovered the damage.

Originally, the investigating officers thought that bullets had been fired, but BB pellets were found to be the cause of the damage. No one was injured and the perp(s) were unknown at press time on Thursday.

According to Sgt. Breen of the 101 Precinct Detective Squad, these particular police officers have been applying a lot of pressure in this area in order to keep control of the drug and shooting occurrences that plague this neighborhood. "They were doing their job a little too well," said Breen. "We think that this incident was probably just sending out a message." However, Breen confirmed that since the incident the patrol in this area has been beefed up.

In an effort to continue with the decline in street crime in this neighborhood detectives from the 101 Precinct are anxious to make an arrest on this shooting. They are asking the community to come forward with any information that might lead them to the perp(s) responsible for the damage to the police van. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Detective Fox at 718-868-3429.
