I Had A Dream
Dear Editor;
I had a dream that our newly elected political officials from the President down kept their promises, vows, and commitments—Happy Days are here again—

I had a dream that the school system was once again as institution of learning. The fundamentals—reading, writing, and arithmetic with no disciplinary problems existing—all this because of the complete and constant cooperation of parents, teachers, and school supervisors.

I had a dream that the Israelis and Palestinians signed a peace pact and world peace was declared. It has so remained, in order that we continue to live and let live on planet Earth.

I had a dream that the Rockaway Chamber of Commerce and Community Board 14 in conjunction with the political officials representing the rockaway peninsula submitted a full page ad the New York Times, which reads as follows—

"Available, more than 300 acres of prime choice oceanfront property, a solid investment writing for an enterprising entrepreneur.

The location, Rockaway Beach, Queens is ideal for film and television productions.

This huge waterfront of virgin territory has been viewed as one of the best ocean waters in the world. Included is a spacious beach and boardwalk, surrounded by a population of more than 100,000. There is ample room to include a recreational stadium, a convention center, a community college, and a diversified shopping mall. The acquisition of this property promises to be a marketable goldmine.

Transportation is perfect with easy access to Kennedy Airport, the train, bus, and ships via ocean.

Interested parties contact Rockaway Chamber of Commerce or Community Board 14."

This dream was finalized—the land was brought and transformed to become the most popular resort in New York.

I had a dream that Congressman Anthony Weiner received a substantial financial grant from congress similar to what former Congressman Reverand Floyd Flake acquired before his retirement. Reverend Flake used the money to benefit and inspire his church and other establishments in his community Jamaica, Queens.

Congressman Weiner used his grant to restore life to the bankrupt Temple of Israel on Beach 84 street. The temple is more than 100 years old and will also be honored with landmark status.

In addition, Congressman Weiner will also restore the empty forgotten courthouse to become a worthwhile community structure such as an aquarium or a planetarium.

I had a dream that you said—"Mildred go back to sleep and continue dreaming, because in the real world it’s not going to happen."

I did wake up to reality, to a world undergoing chaos waiting to explode and to the horrors of power, greed, and corruption.

I did not like what I saw, heard and read. People destroying each other as life means nothing in a world of no return.

Yes, I did shut all this out when I slept wishing that my dreams come true—After all, it’s not that difficult and can be done.

MILDRED SCHULMAN
