Dr. Jerry Cammorata maintains a dual appointment as the commissioner of the Department of Community Development and as a member of the NYC Board of Education. He will address the Regular Democratic Club of the Rockaways at 104-02 Rockaway Beach boulevard, Rockaway Park, at 7:30 p.m. sharp on Thursday, November 2, 2000.
The Department of Community Development operates with a budget of $140 million, has a staff of 500 and develops and manages community-based programs.
Dr. Cammarota is serving his second term as a member of the New York City Board of Education where he oversees one million students, 1100 school buildings and an educational budget of $11 billion. Jerry Cammarota is also the New York City area director of the New York State School Boards Association.
Jerry is a former United Nations liaison to the World Safety Organization. Professionally, Jerry Cammorata is a health care management consultant specializing in risk and emergency management, OSHA compliance in medical/nursing facilities providing education to more than 120 hospitals and nursing homes in the New York City Metropolitan area. Jerry Cammorata is an adjunct faculty member of the City University of New York in safety technology, fire protection, consumer protection and enjoys faculty privileges at Wagner College (New York) in the area of communications.
Jerry Cammorata is the author of the Fun Book of Fatherhood, an autobiographical account of raising his children as the result of his receiving the first paternity leave in this country in an unprecedented decision handed down by the Federal Equal Employment Opportunities Commission in the early 70's. He is also a columnist having authored a syndicated column entitled, "Father's Diary" and is a featured contributor to medical and political journals and newspapers nationally.
Jerry Cammorata was President Carter's appointee to the White House Conference on Families and President Reagan's appointee to the Selective Service System and Civilian Review Board. He is currently the chairman of the Civilian Review Board of New York City.
Dr. Cammorata's academic qualifications include his undergraduate degree from Hofstra University and graduate degree from Hofstra University and California Coast University. Jerry also has an honorary doctorate from Mercy College, Doctor of Humane Letters from Dowling College and the Presidential Medal of Honor from St. John's University.
Besides his work in health, safety and education, he is a licensed speech/language pathologist and audiologist.

Their organization is actively engaged in helping children with special needs. You will be very interested in their presentation.
