Ice Hockey Update:
Stars Lose To Suffolk; Fights Off Wolves

The Stars took to the ice at the Abe Stark arena in Coney Island on Sunday, October 15, facing a tough Suffolk PAL team. The PAL defeated the mistake prone Stars 6-3.

Less than two minutes into the game found the Stars down 1-0 as PAL forward R. Buckingham, assisted by A. Fuchs, beat Stars goalie Ricky Cibrano.

The score went to 2-0 for the visitors as M. DeMaio, assisted by B. Szybello, put the puck into the net. With :31 seconds to go in the first period, Stars forwards Patrick Brown and Kenny Fiorentino combined to make it 2-1; Fiorentino getting the goal.

The PAL broke the game open early in the second period as they scored three goals in less than six minutes. The PAL made it 6-1 at the 4:11 mark as D. Howard, assisted by C. Gordon and S. Jasuta, beat Stars goalie Anthony Zilahy.

The third period belonged to the Stars as they tightened up their defensive play. The Stars made it 6-2 at 10:56 of the period. Forward Jesse Wynn rocketed home a shot from the slot, assisted by his center Michael Kress.

With 3:19 to play the Stars made it a 6-3 game, as forward Matt Scotko put the puck into the net from down low, after a great assist from winger Michael Davie.

Stars goalie coach John Piazza was very pleased with the play of goalie Zilahy who stopped 10 of 11 PAL shots.

Playing their second game of the day, the Stars traveled to Englewood, New Jersey where they defeated the Golden State Wolves 4-2.

The Stars opened the scoring at 5:01 of period one, as defenseman Paddy Mead blasted the puck home, assisted by forwards Nicky Vitale and Jimmy Ketterer. The Stars made it 2-0 at 9:59 of the middle stanza. Vitale, snapping the puck into the net, was assisted by forwards Michael Kress and Kenny Fiorentino.

The Wolves answered back just 32 seconds later, as Michael Arlotta beat Stars goalie Anthony Zilahy, making it a 2-1 game. At the 1:15 mark, it was all tied up as Zilahy was beaten by Michael Dolman from in close. Then with but 20 seconds to go in the period Stars center Matt Grogan put on a tremendous move skating through the two Wolves defensemen, faking the goalie and slipping the puck home. He was assisted by forward Michael Davie and defenseman Charlie Gotard.

If the fans of the Stars thought that they had just seen a highlight move, they were very surprised when just eight seconds later their talented wing Timmy Faruol matched Grogan's move with one of his own. It was as if the fans were seeing a replay. Faruol was assisted by forwards Jesse Wynn and Michael Kress.

Stars goalie Zilahy was outstanding again in net stopping 14 of 16 Wolves shots.

Special mention from the Stars coaching staff to Davie, Faruol and Vitale for some great backchecking throughout the contest.

The Stars players voted centers Jimmy Ketterer, Matt Grogan and defenseman Matt DiBitetto as their captain and assistant captains for the season.
