Hero Saves The Day

By Joan Ward George

Alvin Williams came to the rescue of a Rockaway woman early Thursday morning after noticing that her car was out of control on Beach 88 street and Rockaway Beach boulevard.

According to Police Officer Beecher, of the 100th Precinct, Williams noticed the car careening into oncoming west end traffic crossing the yellow dividing line on the boulevard. Williams saw that the woman was passed out cold, according to Beecher, the victim of an apparent seizure. Williams jumped into the moving ’86 Pontiac and managed to bring it under control and to a stop, just prior to what looked like it was going through the front window of Beach Beverage.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to Peninsula Hospital where she was being treated at the time that The Wave went to press Thursday.

Beecher wanted Williams, of 84-16 Rockaway Beach boulevard, to have his due credit as a local hero and stopped by The Wave to relay the details of the incident.
