On Labor Day, we always look forward to joining Rabbi and Bot Weiss and the other friends and members of the West End Temple at their annual Labor Day Barbecue. Rabbi and Bot Weiss have a warm welcome for everyone. Rabbi Weiss has a breath of knowledge, a wealth of experience and an approachable manner that makes him beloved by all. Everyone enjoys the camaraderie and good fellowship at these temple gatherings. No one can resist the barbecued
chicken and hot dogs, which are the traditional fare. Kudos to Florence Spierer, who is the chair of this event. Florence has a contagious smile and
a warm hearted feeling for people. Her effervescent style and cheerful
demeanor add a special flair to the event.

We also always enjoy the annual VFW luncheon in Father Hesson Hall
chaired by two dynamic veterans - Catherine Hibbits and Kay Kinane.
Catherine and Kay and their committee work hard each year to supersede the last years luncheon. There were numerous prizes for everyone to win. They were beautifully displayed at the front of the auditorium. People from far and wide gather at the VFW event. This year there were nearly 400 people who came to support our veterans. Thanks to Catherine Hibbits and Kay Kinane for carrying on the memories and services for our Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Last week we had the pleasure of joining Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer for her thank you party. Audrey sponsors this dinner every two years to thank the people who take time to circulate the petitions. It is truly a noble effort to go door to door throughout the 23 Assembly District to collect signatures. It's a tedious process but a very necessary one. It allows us as citizens to have a say in who represents us in government. Thanks to all who participate in the petition gathering.

Joining me at the dinner were my mother Dr. Geraldine D. Chapey, NYS Board of Regents, my husband Eugene Pasternak and many good friends.

Audrey Pheffer held the dinner at the Beach Club. Steve Goode does an
excellent job in serving delicious food in a family atmosphere. In the Beach
Club, everyone can relax and enjoy a great meal.

Assemblywoman Audrey Pheffer works hard for us in Albany. She is very interested in issues that
concern working men and women, seniors and tenants. She fights for her constituents.

Jo Ann Shapiro, Audrey's chief of staff, reminded us that Audrey is
running on the ballot in November. She is having a gala campaign kick off on October 4 at 7 p.m. at 92-03 Rockaway Beach boulevard. It is next to Elegante Restaurant. If you are looking for delicious and delectable Italian and American cuisine please go to Elegante. The atmosphere is warm, the surroundings inviting and the food is great. If you can't get to the restaurant please call Elegante for fast service on a delivery order.

Please join us on October 4 for the opening at 92-03 Rockaway Beach
boulevard at 7 p.m. Come and help Audrey Pheffer to kick off her campaign. We look forward to seeing you.
