Kudos To Gateway

Dear Editor;

(Letter to Billy Garret, superintendent, Gateway National Recreation, Jamaica Bay Unit.)

I am writing you to express my appreciation for the Junior Ranger course, which my two boys and myself attended this summer. The wide variety of experiences proved very interesting for the boys, culminating with the overnight in Camp Cherry. The no-flashlight "rods and cones" lesson on our night walk and the camaraderie generated through the camp experience are two outstanding memories. My personal favorite was the birdwalk at Breezy where we observed hundreds black skimmers at a very close distance. I am sure that a sensitivity and knowledge of the "wild" will stay with the children attending throughout their days.

Ranger Nancy Corona proved a hardworking knowledgeable leader who maintained a warm and humorous relationship with all. All staff concerned provided expert guidance. They included John Z, John G, Jan W, Pat N, Jerry B, and Alex R. I believe that this program should be expanded and request that funding for this program be enlarged.
