As the U.S. Open reaches the finals, so has the Rockaway community. The New York Junior Tennis League (NYJTL), along with several local businesses and the Rockaway Sports Association, collaborated on Rockaway’s first ever sanctioned tennis tournament. But the information and story goes deeper than the sport itself.

Numerous business sponsors and civic groups assisted in obtaining trophies, sweats, players, etc. to and for the participants (ages six to 18 years old).

The Rockaway tournament was a great success for the NYJTL’s first year. Tennis is booming in the Rockaway’s and we want the youth to know that we have several sites and the lessons are free.

I truly want to thank all who contributed: Mr. Caucig, Kenny and Steve Good along with their mother Fran Good, Mr. Ralph Richardson, and others.

Hopefully, with the assistance of The Wave, I can report a few more stories to let the community know that there are youth sports in the Rockaway’s, along with people who want to help.
