Beachcomber

The most overdressed guy on the beach last weekend had to be Anthony Weiner. The hard working congressman was saying hello to constituents wearing a shirt and tie. That’s one way to get noticed!

They’re already talking up a town hall to be held at beach channel High School in October. It’ll be your chance to hear directly from office holders and office wannabes. Stay tuned.

Although things seem to be a bit sleepy at Floyd Bennett Field these days, blimps or dirigibles brighten the place a bit. We’ve seen Tommy Hilfiger and Office.com docked there in recent times. Blimps are more than Goodyear these days. Fuji. . . Metlife. (No wisecracks, please).

It’s Labor Day weekend which is the unofficial end of summer. Good thing we had No Parking on Saturdays and Sundays otherwise it wouldn’t have felt like summer at all.

Geoff Rawling of the Rockaway Artists Alliance needs assistant artists---of all ages!---to help paint a mural to commemorate Rockaway’s Viking Sail. Show up at noon, September 3 on Beach 116th street at the Viking sail Site.

Oops. Last week one of the sponsors of the Rockaway Music Fest was listed as "R&J Contractor." It was supposed to read: "R&J Construction Corporation."

Garbage in, garbage out. With the holiday on Monday, residents who normally receive Monday pick-up should place trash curbside on Monday night for a Tuesday pick-up. Those who get Tuesday pick-ups should put garbage out as well on Monday night. If you normally get recycling pick-up on Monday you’ll have to wait until Monday, September 11.

Anyone wonder why the Green Line Express bus from Manhattan makes a circuitous run through Howard Beach on its way to Rockaway Park? Rockaway residents have to pay $3.00 for what? A tour of Howard Beach they don’t want? And Rockaway Park gets a bigger shaft because only one express bus per day comes this way--- even though since Metrocards and a reduced fare ridership has increased greatly. Start those petitions now.

We hear rumors all the time. In fact, we heard one about some thing called Technodome and dozens about the courthouse and on and on. Well, here’s another: someone is looking to buy a 116 hotel and turn the place into a real hotel and spa (a full-scale health and beauty salon). The emphasis would actually be on the spa---where all day makeovers would take place.

We have to ask: what kind of Democrat can Noach Dear be if he’s already said that he’ll run as a Republican if he loses the primary to Anthony Weiner.
