Dot on Roxbury

by Dotty Taphouse

On Thursday, August 24, the Roxbury Club held its annual dinner in the Roxbury Barn II. Will Thornhill made the reservations for the delicious dinner and it was enjoyed by all.

On Friday, August 25, the Mayor’s Committee of Roxbury ran their annual golf tournament in Marine Park. Bob Taphouse was the chairman and with his helpers ran it. Danny Armour and Bert Doyle were the winners and there were 80 who attended it. After the golfing they returned to the Mayor’s Committee clubhouse for refreshments and a delicious buffet catered by Frannie Jamin of Jamco. Another fun day.

Tom Cook was elected the new mayor of Roxbury. He defeated lovely Pat Ross. There were parades all over the beach with the Gladiola Band playing and all kinds of goodies for the children. More fun.

The art show in the activity center was enjoyed by the artists and attendees.

The Roxbury Club had their end of the season Mass in St. Genevieve’s church for living and deceased members and a party at Charlie and Irene Hettenbach’s patio on Saturday. All kinds of delicious hors d’ ouvres, filet mignon and refreshments plus music.

The cocktail party on Sunday in the Roxbury Catholic Club was run by Irene Hettenbach, Gloria Henry and Helen Peterson. The members made and donated the delicious food and the refreshments were flowing, plus dancing to live music. Another end of the summer season affair.

The Yikes softball team won the championship game on Sunday over the Bockers. They lost the first game, won the second and won the third, seven to five. Congratulations.

A safe, healthy mardi gras to all.

Happy birthday to Jeanette Farrell, September 1. Love ya, Dot.
