Dot On Roxbury…

Sheena Byrnes daughter of Jeanne and Mike Byrnes of Roxbury had a delightful sweet sixteen birthday (August 20, 2000) on August 18, 2000 at the Knights of Columbus hall in Rockaway. Sheena’s brother Michael was on leave from the Navy for her party and his dad’s previous retirement party. The food was delicious and there was an excellent DJ for dancing.

The Roxbury fishing tournament was held on Saturday. The winners were Ziggy the winner of the Calcutta, Howie Taphousesr, Ruddy Rodman, Joe Sullivan and the youngest winner J.R. McDermott. When all the boats were in they celebrated in the mayor’s committee clubhouse with food and refreshments.

A big parade was held on Saturday night for Pat Ross wife of Buddy Ross who is running for mayor of Roxbury of the mayors committee against Tom Cook. It was a fun parade all through the beach and ended up in the mayor’s committee clubhouse.

This week I returned home after a month in P.G. and the rehab center I would like to thank my wonderful family and wonderful friends for all their care, prayers, concern, flowers, cards etc. I also wish to thank the nurses and aides in the rehab center Janet Lee, Donna Kerns, Lottie Chong, Janet P., Nurse Julia Gross, Pauline Mirage, Elaine Thorne, Roselyn Phillips and visitors Sandy Livingston and the Walshs’, Marge and Marty King. Scott Madden was very helpful in taking me back and forth to therapy. Renato Batero, Lou Felosa, Diane Antonette, Miriam Lichter, Chang Lee etc. were all there for me in therapy and occupational therapy. Sister Catherine Crowley was very encouraging. Thanks to all of you.

Last week there was a goof in the paper, my husband and I ran the Roxbury Sweet Shoppe for forty years and had two seasons of very bad weather like this year.

Happy birthday John Nies (8/21), Lisa Nies (8/29), Jeanette (9/1), Clare Wayne (9/4), Mickey Bosch (9/5), Maureen Dunne (9/5), and Joanne McMonagle (9/5).

Love ya Dot
