Movie actor Alec Baldwin featured in "Miami Blue and "Getaway" with actress/wife Kim Basinger as well as many more films and TV movies is pictured here at the new elegant Atlas restaurant on Central Park South, Manhattan for the benefit fundraiser for Tish School of Arts. Atlas owners are deeply involved with the Tish School of Arts and take great interest in its support.

The pictures last week of CBS sports announcers, Phil Simms and Marcus Allen were taken at the Museum of Radio and Television on East 52 street to celebrate the new football season and partnership with famous clothes designer, Joseph Abroud who is outfitting the famed announcers. Models of his suits were on display.

In Grand Central Station you will find the office of John W. Campbell who took over because he found it to be the biggest ground floor room in NYC. It lies off the west balcony on the Vanderbilt side and still remains his property. He and his wife transformed it into a galleried hall of a 13-century Florentine palace. The 13-century furniture was all imported from Italy. Though this office was a museum of beautiful precious things by day, by night it became a great hall to entertain friends of 50 or 60 guests who could hear the finest musicians on their installed pipe organ and grand piano.

The Campbell’s live well out in the suburbs and love crowds. Leasing the great hall has solved their social problems.

As the holiday season approaches specialty retailer, Eddie Bauer leased this grand apartment to offer an outstanding collection of gift items including dress casual apparel, unique and fun gadgets and travel gear for holiday adventures. In fact, they joined in partnership with National Geographic Magazine. The adventure sportswear is outstanding. Senior Vice President, product designer, Michael Alexin is responsible for the creation of women’s sportswear and casual dress, footwear, gear, accessories, outwear and home furnishings, etc. He did a marvelous job in putting it all together. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Now I know what the best-dressed traveler should wear and carry in his or her bags.

Tofu is supposed to be so healthy for you. Oregon Chai has made it even easier for you to drink. They came out with a product called Original Chai, a tea latte that you keep in the refrigerator and just shake, open and drink. It comes in green tea with creamy soy and black tea with creamy soy. They also have nirvana, a sweet spicy tea latte that needs milk to be added. "It is sure to temp you yin and smooth your yang," they say.

The end of the season is winding down and the sports tournaments are coming up with their winners. Huggy Bears, Breezy Point softball team, clinched this season. Patty Adams and Joe Kildebride got home runs; Frank O’Neil whacked two home runs; Jim the Flash stole four bases; pitcher Phil Franks won nine games; Bernie Murphy made two double diving catches; Pat O’Brien started the rally and threw out two runners at home plate; "Hawk" Billy Hughes came out of retirement to pitch the last two innings. Billy is the manager for the 15th Championship. Good work guys!

At the B.P.S.C. bocce tournament the players are making up for the lost wet days we had this summer. So far Ann Verderosa is in the money at third place; John Hughes won in men’s doubles; Anita Wilkenson and Dr. Vinney Pacelli took guys and dolls. Jean Johnson and Ann West took women’s doubles. The playoffs will be next week when you get the final report.

So much to do, so much to do. You don’t find Rockaway slipping in the activities department. John McLoughlin gave a great rundown of all festivities last week. Unfortunately, I was unable to attend a few. This weekend, however, I will try to make the annual fundraiser for the Rockaway Theatre Company on Saturday, August 26 from seven to 11p.m. at the Post Theatre, Fort Tilden. There will be raffles, art auction, Chinese auction and games of chance as well as entertainment on stage. Fred Carmichael’s mystery comedy "Murder is a Game" starts September 1 and will run Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. for September 30 with two special performances at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Sunday, September 17 at the Post Theatre at Fort Tilden. Any special notices please mail me at my city address or call my business phone number. You will receive a speedier reply that way.
