Rain, rain, go away! All we seem to have is rain and more rain. The summer has gone by so rapidly. I’m beginning to think we need Noah’s Ark.
We are pleased to point out that once again construction on Beach 102 street by Tommy and Al Cantonese is back on target. Neponsit Adult Day Care Center, Hammels Senior Center and a number of doctor’s offices will be coming in mid-fall. There are other offices to rent.
We are looking forward to the Cantonese brothers building a shopping mall in the vicinity. I have a commitment from several great stores that will be opening. Thanks to the Cantonese brothers for putting their money where their mouth is.
We are extremely please with Al Gore’s pick for the Democratic candidate for vice president. U.S. Senator Joe Lieberman showed his independence and integrity during the Clinton impeachment hearings. Although a great friend to the President, he blasted him and rightfully so. That’s my style and I like people who speak their minds. We look forward to Joe Lieberman being a great vice president.
We extend a thank you to Matthew Kessler for his assistance in the burial of my own mother and the loved ones of several board members of our Democratic Club. Matt goes above and beyond. His prices are one third to one half less than other out of area services. Unfortunately, we do not have a Jewish funeral home in Rockaway. Instead of traveling to the Five Towns or Brooklyn, the family can arrange for services at graveside or in a local synagogue. Matt helps the family make these arrangements. Matt Kessler is currently distributing a beautiful Jewish calendar for the New Year. It displays beautiful reproductions from the Jewish Museum. Synagogues, organizations and individuals can obtain this calendar by calling Matt (he is listed in the Rockaway phone book under funeral directors).
It was great to meet my fellow columnist the G-Man, Gary Toms. His great style and personality makes him a hero to many in this community. Keep up your great work and keep fighting for your beliefs!
Congratulations to newly married couple Steve and Denise Bradish. In 1994, during my election campaign for district leader, Denise Horan of the Broad Channel Volunteer Fire Department, at that time supervising dispatcher, volunteered to coordinate my petitions for election in Broad Channel. During this time my great friend Charlie Flohr introduced me to Steve. Steve and his friend Martin volunteered to obtain signatures on my behalf. He met Denise and became great friends.
From great friends to great romance...Six years later I’m the troublemaker responsible for this marriage. Denise was a single mother raising three children, with several health problems, going to college and surviving on a small budget. We are proud to say Denise is a college graduate with a degree in social work. Steve was always a great friend, always there for Denise and the kids through thick and thin.
We wish them 100 years of great happiness. Congratulations, Mazel Tov, we love you and will always be there for you.
