Mr. Sand Man...
More than 100 children and parents participated in the fifth annual Sandcastle Contest on Tuesday, August 1 as part of the Night Out Against Crime festivities.
"The sand sculptures were simply magnificent," said Barbara J. Morris, owner of West End Realty, who sponsors this event annually. Judges chose the sandcastle winners based on originality, workmanship and creativeness.
Friends who helped to sponsor this event included Two Brothers Construction; Tom Catanese, who was one of the judges; BBC Variety Store; Vintage Abstract; and Condor Pest Control. Rogoff’s and the Fashion Wave donated snorkels, fins, pails and shovels. Ciro’s Pizza on Beach 116 street donated pizza and the Sand Bar Restaurant donated hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, ice-cream sundaes and soda.
Thanks to Doug MacLeod and the Parks Department who helped to get the permit set for this on-the-beach activity. Thanks are also in order for Community Affairs Police Officer Hector Tello and to Police Officer Tom Bowden, who not only policed the event, but also was one of the judges.
Thank you to Jate Doremus -- not only did he make the markers, he also helped to sign in and mark the beach, plus was one of the judges.
