Chatting With Chapey

By Dr. Geraldine M. Chapey, Democratic District Leader

It's petition time again! This is a wonderful opportunity for the
electorate to learn about the different candidates running for office. Your
signature on the petition gives the person the right to run. It does not
mean that you must vote for the person. The petition process allows the
candidate’s name to appear on the ballot.

Again this year the members of the Regular Democratic of the Rockaways and the members of the South Side Democratic Club in Ozone Park have done an outstanding job in collecting signatures. I would like to thank everyone who has participated, both those who collected the signatures and those who signed the petitions. It is through your efforts that we are able to sustain the democratic process and give everyone an opportunity to participate.

Again this year the members of the Regular Democratic Club of the
Rockaways and the members of the South Side Democratic Club in Ozone Park have collected a record number of signatures. We collected over 1000
signatures for our candidates. This makes us among the highest clubs in
Queens County. Thanks goes to Sharon Gabriel, the president of our Rockaway club, and Connie Grabowski, the president of our Ozone Park club. They provide outstanding leadership all year long. Sharon and Connie are intelligent, energetic and futuristic leaders. Sharon shares her extensive credentials and experience in the arts and entertainment profession with our community through her activities in the Rockaway Arts and Music Council and the Rockaway Museum. She brings an air of sophistication and elegance to all her endeavors. She is also an active member of Temple Israel. Connie Grabowski's expertise in the health and medical fields is extensively shared with her neighbors through her outreach from Jamaica Hospital. Connie is a valuable resource in this important area. When anyone is in need - she is a friend in deed. She is very active in St. Stanislaus Parish. We are very fortunate to have these two women living here. They are part of the backbone of our community. Sharon and Connie are strong believers in the Democratic Party.

As the election season moves along we will hear more from each of the
candidates. It is important to take the time to familiarize yourself with
their positions on the different issues. It is through this process that we
can cast a very informed vote.
