I was really excited to read the Wave editorial of July 1 encouraging the community to "Put Rockaway On The Map". Maybe a lot of people shy away from starting new programs because the undertaking seems insurmountable. Maybe Arverne has sat vacant because it seems the only thing to do there must be monumental. Just a few years ago a group of us Rockaway folks sat down and dove into uncharted waters by staring the Rockaway Artists Alliance. Despite some vivid blood, sweat and tears the project has blossomed into something very special that is making its mark on the map of NYC. Just imagine the impact the alliance will have in another five years. I would encourage dreamers small and large, from Far Rock to Breezy, to take the plunge and incite new programs and projects (need for more "think-tanks" and "talk-tanks" already fulfilled, thank you very much).
We dwell on a diamond in the rough just waiting for a little more polish. If you can't finance a "Technoboom", why not start a "Rockaboom" instead. Every little bit helps. Your editorial has inspired me to dedicate myself to a new "map worthy" project that I'll plunge into this fall. Come on in, everybody, the water's great! "
