Welcome Back, Friend

Dear Editor;

Mary Malloy attended the recent A.O.H. Irish Hospital benefit dance, but in a wheelchair. Mary, dearly beloved by so many in the Rockaway Irish/American community, was terribly blindsided by a speeding bicycle on the sidewalk on 129 street more than a year ago. The young cyclist hit Mary so hard that even bones in her face were shattered. Her many friends also were shocked as to how this could happen to such a lovely person.

Mary spent weeks in Peninsula General Hospital intensive care and months undergoing therapy. She has been home now for several months and is most anxious to resume life, visiting her many friends and attending church and Irish/American activities. But she is still under 24-hours care and help at home and is taken to Far Rockaway several times a week for continued therapy.

Yes, she has suffered and it will continue for the foreseeable future. But her mind and spirits are clear and she was happy to be at St. Rose shaking so many hands and posing for pictures.
