Veronica (Mickey) Costa
Loved By Many

Veronica (Mickey) Costa died on Saturday, June 10, 2000.
She was a Rockaway resident for 34 years and was the owner of Mickey’s on 116 street from 1979 to 1996. Veronica was a former member of the Key West Power Squadron and the Sons of Italy Key West Lodge.
Veronica is survived by her husband Joseph; sons Ralph, Michael, and Thomas; and eight grandchildren.

Gerda Devlin
Of Rockaway Park

Gerda Devlin died on Monday, June 12, 2000.
She was a Rockaway Park resident for 35 years.
Gerda is survived by her mother Nina Nielsen; companion Clemens Trocket; sisters Karen Leitenberger, Karol Kain Gray, Lisa Gilbert, and Patricia Gorbert.
She is predeceased by her sister, the late Dorothea Nelson.
Private services were held under the direction of Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Inc., of Rockaway Park.

George Francis Gerry
Formerly of Rockaway
George Francis Gerry died on Wednesday, May 31, 2000, in Brooklyn.
A longtime Rockaway resident, George was employed at Rockaways’ Playland and at Coney Island.
He is survived by his brother John; sister-in-law Marianne; nephews Tyrone and John (wife, Jennifer); niece Suzanne; and grand-nephew Jack Ryan, all of Florida.
Private services were held on Monday, June 5.

Isidro Gutierrez
From Far Rockaway
Mass of Christian Burial for Isidro Gutierrez was celebrated on Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church.
He worked as a printer.
Isidro is survived by his daughters Tara Saez and Nancy Gutierrez.
Interment under the direction of Lawrence Funeral Chapel, Inc., was held in Puerto Rico.

Mary T. Hartmann
Devoted Veteran

Mass of Christian Burial for Mary T. Hartmann was celebrated on Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at St. Francis de Sales Church.
Mary was a US Federal Marshal, a retired detective of the New York Police Department, and a Korean War Veteran of the United States Army.
She is the beloved daughter of Frances (nee Solino) and the late Michael Hartmann; dear niece of Helen Ward and Ange Solino; loving cousin of Mary Jane, Carolyn, Donald and Bonnie Solino, Carol Goode, and Reverend Philip Blaine; and many other cousins and relatives.
Interment under the direction of Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Inc., of Rockaway Park, was held at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Calvary Hospital, 1740 Eastchester Road, Bronx, NY, 10461.

Thomas E. Kilgallon
Of Rockaway Beach
Mass of Christian Burial for Thomas E. Kilgallon was celebrated on Monday, June 12, 2000, at St. Rose of Lima Church.
Thomas was born in 1907 and resided in the Highbridge section of the Bronx. He was one of nine children. He came to Rockaway Beach in 1965 with his wife, Frances, and their two children, Thomas F. and Eileen Mary.
He was a Master Sergeant in the U.S. Army and served in England during World War II. Thomas was employed at the Transit Authority for over 40 years and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, The American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Thomas is survived by his two children, Thomas F. of St. Louis, Missouri (wife, Joanne) and Eileen M. Hynes of Fords, New Jersey (husband, Bill); grandchildren Jennifer Moran, Thomas P. Kilgallon, Eileen Anne, Allison, Matthew, and Kevin Hynes; and great-grandchildren Sean and Lauren Moran.
He was laid to rest at Calverton National Cemetery with military honors.

David McCullough, Jr.
Family From Here

David McDullough, jr., died on May 31, 2000. He was born in Cortland, Alabama to David and Teal McCullough.
As a young man, David entered the U.S. Army. After serving a three-year tour of duty, he resided in the state of California. He later relocated to New York City. It is there that he met and married his wife. In August of 1995 he moved his family to Decatur, Georgia.
David was a kind man with a big heart. His personality won him many friends. He was a devoted husband and father.
He is survived by his wife, Louisiana McCullough; son Michael McCullough of Far Rockaway; daughters Emily McCullough of Georgia and Bettina Horlback of Far Rockaway; granddaughter Emerald; brothers Henry, Ronnie, and Charles; sisters Catherine McCullough, Jenny Silver, and Flora Quarles; aunts Louise Ellison and Geraldine Wheeler; one son-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Interment under the direction of Donald Trimble Mortuary, of Decatur, Georgia, was held at Kennedy Memorial Garden, Ellenwood, Georgia.

Esbe McGuire
From Rockaway Beach

Mass of Christian Burial for Esbe McGuire was celebrated on Monday, June 12, 2000, at St. Rose of Lima Church.
A native of Dublin, Ireland, Esbe was a Rockaway Beach resident for 20 years. She was retired from the New York City Health and Hospital Co.
Esbe is survived by her husband Frank; sons Brian, David, and Christopher; daughters Margaret Zarcone, Mary Carmichael, Adrian Boland; and 13 grandchildren.
Interment under the direction of Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Inc., was held at Calverton National Cemetery.

Rafael Morales
Far Rock Resident
Mass of Christian Burial for Rafael Morales was celebrated on May 31, 2000, at St. Mary’s Star of the Sea Church.
Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home, Inc., of Inwood, was held at Rosedale Cemetery, Linden, New Jersey.

Frederick Schultz
Of Rockaway Park
Frederick Schultz died on Tuesday, June 8, 2000.
He was a resident of Rockaway Park for 15 years.
Frederick is survived by his daughter Melissa Schultz and his sister Lois Berryman.
Private services were held under the direction of Denis S. O’Connor Funeral Home, Inc., of Rockaway Park.

Margaret Ann Smith
From Far Rockaway
Service for Margaret Ann Smith was held on Sunday, June 11, 2000, at First Baptist Church in Far Rockaway.
Margaret came to New York in 1959. She attended Public School 39 in Queens and York College. She later worked at American Cleaners in Hicksville for 15 years and moved on to work at St. John’s Boys Home for seven years. She also worked for the Board of Education.
She is survived by her husband John Wilson Smith; children Adrienne, Curtis, Jeffery, Sonya, Rhonda Smith-Harriotte; son-in-law Ronnald Harriotte; grandchildren Sequon, Davon, Shannon, Daquan, Shandell, Kalief, Nikita, Justin, Naquan, Shandera, Lamar, and Shamar; brother Robert Curtis Gaither; sister Althea; aunt Ella Rose Dalton; father-in-law Frank Smith; stepmother Marie Gaither; and stepfather-in-law Edward Jackson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney’s Funeral Home, Inc., of Inwood, was held at All Saints Cemetery, Great Neck, New York.
