Far Rock Beautification
Planned For This Fall
In a continued effort to improve the Far Rockaway shopping district, Community Board 14 District Manager Jonathan Gaska announced earlier this week that sidewalks along Mott avenue from Beach Channel drive to Cornaga avenue will be replaced and the Parks Department will be planting trees along Mott avenue.
The expected improvements for the Far Rockaway shopping district are a result of a meeting between Gaska and Queens Borough President Claire Shulman. Included in this meeting were Department of Transportation Queens Borough Commissioner William Baier and representatives from the Parks Department.
"This has been a priority for the board for a number of years," said Gaska. "We finally convinced the right people to get this done."
With Far Rockaway’s neglect by government stemming back more than two decades, Community Board 14 has prioritized the concerns and issues of the residents and merchants of the area. Within the past few years, Community Board 14 has been instrumental in having the lighting along Beach 20 street replaced and having Mott and Central avenues resurfaced.
Work is expected to start this fall.
