Chatting With Chapey

Congressman Thomas Manton, the chairperson of the Queens County
Democratic Organization, was the guest of honor at the South Queens Democratic Club. He came to the meeting to induct the new officers for the 2000-2001 year at the club. Congressman Manton served in Congress until 1998.

Congressman Manton continues to have an outstanding career of public
service. He began as a New York City police officer. While he served on the
force he went to college at night. He continued his academic career by going to law school after work. Tom ran for the city council and was elected. He distinguished himself as a tireless worker for the people in his district.

When Geraldine Ferraro left the Congress to run for vice president, Tom Manton was elected to fill her seat. As a congressman, Tom Manton strongly supported issues, which are vital to working men and women and to union members and their families. He is well known as a champion of Irish issues. Congressman Manton became the Queens County leader in 1986. He is a capable, energetic and dynamic leader. He expertly guides our organization in promoting democratic principles. He has a collaborative and open style and works well with diverse groups. He is well respected by his colleagues and by the public at large.

Congressman Manton swore in the following officers: President, Frank
Gulluscio; First Vice President, Ann Grossberg; Second Vice President,
Nicholas Loprinzi; Third Vice President, Joseph P. Addabbo; Treasurer, Sam Rabinowitz; Financial Secretary, Dorothy Gruen; Recording Secretary, Linda Cosentino; Corresponding Secretary, Tema Rabinowitz; Publicity Coordinator Al
Konigsberg; Sergeant-at-Arms, Nat Goldstein; Board of Directors Chairman, Augustus C. Agate; Vice Chair, Betty Braton; Secretary, Gloria Hershkowitz. The following were sworn in as members of the executive committee: Martin Auerbach, Art Beroff, Ira Cooper, Linda Cosentino, Taryn Deleberti, Anne Grossberg, Gloria Hershkowitz, Martin Lander, John Marus, Joseph Panzarella,
David Prager, Sam Rabinowitz, Frances Scarantino and Morton Werbel.

Also attending the meeting were Eugene Pasternak, member of Community Planning Board 14; John Marus, vice chair of Community Planning Board 10; Frances Scarantino, STARS; Rose Pepe, district manager, Community Planning Board 10; Sally Maiola-Vasale, law secretary; J. Janice Taylor, judge; Margaret Finnerty, Richmond Hill South Civic Association; Larry Love, counsel to Audrey Pheffer; Jo Ann Shapiro, chief of staff to Audrey Pheffer; Sol Mossa, commander of the Old Mill Yacht Club; Donna Gilmartin, president of the Locust Grove Civic Association and Patricia Roman-Ciurcina, court attorney in the Civil Court.

Congratulations to all those who were sworn in by Congressman Manton.
